Privacy Policy — Bible Explorer: Read & Study
Effective date: October 15, 2026.
In short
- The app has no ads, no tracking and no analytics. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- You can read without an account. In that case, everything you do in the app stays on your phone.
- If you sign in, your progress and quotes are stored on our server so they’re available on all your devices. Only you can see them.
- The app knows where you saved a quote only if you turn on “Mark the place” yourself.
- The shared counters, “One chapter, one world” and “Highlighted by the world,” are off until you turn them on and are never linked to you.
Who is responsible for your data
“Bible Explorer: Read & Study” (shown as “Bible Explorer” on your home screen) is published by Alexandr Bordeniuc, Moldova. If you have any questions about your data, email support@bibleexplorer.app.
What stays on your phone
- The app’s settings: language, Bible translation, text appearance, reminders.
- Your reading progress: chapters read, reading days, where you left off, the plan you’re following, your awards (for reading and the study plans) and the award you chose as your avatar.
- Quotes: the verses, your note and, if you marked it, the place.
Until you sign in, none of this is sent anywhere. You can delete it in the app (with “Settings → Data → Reset progress” and by deleting your quotes; resetting progress keeps your awards) or by deleting the app.
Account and sync
An account is optional. If you sign in:
- we receive your email address (we send the sign-in link to it) or, once those options are available, your Sign in with Apple or Google details;
- your reading progress and quotes (with notes and marked places) are stored on the server so the app can sync them across your devices;
- only your account can access them; the database enforces this.
If someone else later signs in on the same phone, the app asks before adding the phone’s data to their account and does nothing without their consent.
The server and sign-in run on Supabase (Supabase Inc.); the data is stored in the EU (Ireland, eu-west-1) region. Supabase also sends the sign-in emails.
You can delete your account in the app: “Settings → Sign-in and sync → Delete account”. Your progress and quotes on the server are deleted with it right away. The data on your phone stays until you delete it. You can also do this without the app: email support@bibleexplorer.app from the address you sign in with, and we will delete your account within 30 days.
Quote locations
When you save a quote and turn on “Mark the place,” the app asks for location permission once and finds where your phone is. The place is saved to within about 100 meters (330 feet), along with the name you give it. You can also deny access and pick the place on the map yourself.
The app does not track your movements and never looks up your location in the background. Only you can see the map of your quotes.
Maps are provided by Apple on iPhone and by Google on Android. To draw a map, their services receive requests for the area shown, which they handle under their own privacy policies.
The shared counters
Both settings are off until you turn them on (“Settings → Reading the Bible”).
- “One chapter, one world.” While a chapter is open, the phone tells the server once a minute which chapter is open, the language of the translation and a random number that is created anew each time the app starts. This number is not linked to your account or your phone. Each check-in is deleted after 10 minutes. In return, the app receives only totals: how many people are reading this chapter right now, and in which languages.
- “Highlighted by the world.” When you save or delete a quote, the count for its verses goes up or down by one. Nothing else is sent. The server keeps only a total for each verse.
What else the app loads from the internet
- Bible translations you download in the app and the video catalog come from our server (Supabase).
- Narrated recordings (the Berean Standard Bible read by Bob Souer) come from Cloudflare R2 file storage (Cloudflare, Inc.) when you listen to a chapter or download a book to listen offline. The request carries only the address of the chapter’s file, no account or personal data. Chapters you have listened to or downloaded are kept on the phone.
- Images of works of art (the «With works of art» reading mode) come from the same Cloudflare R2 storage when a work first appears on the screen. The request carries only the address of the image’s file, no account or personal data. Works already shown are kept on the phone.
- App updates (fixes and new content between App Store versions) come from Expo’s update service (650 Industries, Inc., Expo). When the app starts it asks whether a newer version exists; the request carries only technical details (app version, platform, an update channel), no account or personal data.
As with any website, these servers see the technical details of each request: IP address, time and device type. We don’t use them to identify you. The provider keeps technical logs for a limited time to run and protect the service.
What the app does not send
- Notifications (the reading reminder, Holy Week events, the verse of the hour) are scheduled on the phone itself, without a server.
- Reading aloud with the phone’s own voice: the text is not sent anywhere.
- The app has no analytics: we don’t track what you read or how you use the app.
Crash reports
When the app breaks, it sends a technical crash report to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), so we can fix the bug: the error and where in the app it happened, the app version, and the phone model and system version. The report contains no account, email, IP address, notes, quotes or places. Sentry keeps reports for a limited time (up to 90 days).
The Bible+ subscription
Once the subscription is available, payment will go only through the App Store or Google Play. We never receive card details. To confirm your subscription on your devices, we will use RevenueCat. It receives an anonymous customer ID and the purchase details (what was bought, when, and when it expires).
Children
The app has a section for children: stories to read together with a child. It works without an account and collects nothing about the child. Accounts are meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect children’s data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
How long data is kept
- On the phone — until you delete it.
- On the server (progress, quotes, email address) — until you delete your account.
- “One chapter, one world” check-ins — up to 10 minutes.
- “Highlighted by the world” totals — with no time limit; they aren’t linked to anyone.
Your rights
At any time, you can ask what data we hold about you, get a copy of it, correct or delete it, and withdraw your consent (by turning a setting off or deleting your account). You can do almost all of this in the app itself. For anything else, email support@bibleexplorer.app; we will reply within 30 days. If you believe we are violating your rights, you can file a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and let you know about important changes in the app.
